AGAINST a worrying background of a growing tide of arson attacks, Lancashire's combined fire authority meets today to thrash out measures aimed at curbing this deadly menace.

Computer technology, detector dogs and greater public involvement are among the steps being taken, but one of the main concerns is that children are to blame for so many attacks.

Officers are to work with youngsters to teach them the perils of playing with fire. It is a drive that should have all our support -- above all, of parents who should ensure they always know what their children are up to.
