AN overgrown corner of a school courtyard is being transformed into a picturesque millennium garden.

The exciting project at Darwen Vale School was dreamed up two years ago.

Plants and flowerbeds are now being created and the central water feature is soon to be connected.

Art teacher and project co-ordinator Mrs Val Rogerson said: "The original plan was to create an area for prefects but it has grown since then.

"By Christmas we hope to have a useful resource for the whole school. It will be used for entertaining, relaxation and will by tied into studies including science and literature."

Funding has come from a variety of sources including parents, staff, industry and environmental grants.

Groundwork Blackburn has helped with the design.

If you have a project that you think is worth celebrating then we want to hear about it. Or if you know someone who is doing good work for the environment and would like to nominate them for Grimebuster or Junior Grimebuster of the Year then let us know.
