Pilkington Recs 10 PORTICO powered to an impressive win against their local rivals.

They opened their account with a penalty from Mike Hobin. Pilks came back with a penalty converted by Mike Forber.

But Portico stepped up a gear with a try by Dave Ward converted by Mike Hobin. Then from the 21st minute Portico scored three tries in 10 minutes.

The first was scored by Dave Leyland, the second by Jaz Del Farro and the third by Mike Hobin, all converted by Mike Hobin who added a penalty goal in the 24th minute. Pilks only try of the first half came from D Archer. Just before half-time Mark Rigby touched down for Portico

The second half started as the first had finished with Mark Rigby scoring his second try. Dave Leyland also went in for his second try of the game.

Pilks kept plugging away and came up with a consolation try by D Archer.

After conceding a try in the first minute, Pilks hit back to claim a fine derby success. Their try scorers were R. Griffiths, R. Burkhill and S. Cairns. R. Pilling added the conversions.

Best for Pilks were man-of-the-match Mark Briody, coaches award winner Martin Hutton, who helped himself to two tries and a conversion and Luke Smith, who topped the tackle count. Other try scorers were Greg Smith and Dave Mason. Adam Harris, Andy Webster and Andy Bacon also impressed. Mayfield under 11s nil

Recs started the season impressively. Tries flowed from R. Foreman, A. Ranson, T. Armstrong, D. Lynch, D. Haughtgon, P. Eden, M. Holding, S. Lee (2) and man-of-the-match Chris Roberts (3). Andrew Ranson earned the coaches award and Dave Haughton was top tackler.

Pilks tries were scored by Matthew Owen and Jamie Owen, with Jonathan Phillips adding a conversion. Corus Building Materials awards went to performers of the week Matty Owen and Ste Keane, coaches award winners Sam Clitheroe and Sam Hughes, top tackler Scott Pennington and men-of-the-match Mike Cottom and Jamie Atkinson.

However, the game was marred by an injury to Tom Connick and all the club wish him a speedy recovery.

In a solid all-round display, Pilks' points came from the impressive Ben Topping and Ryan Hilliard (three tries each), Daniel Frodsham (two tries, goal), Adam Moss (try and goal), man-of-the-Match Darren Quirk (try), top tackler David Saunders (goal), Owain Griffiths (goal) and Matthew Twist (goal). Portico's slick ball handling saw them overcome a bigger Pendle outfit. Their tries came from Stephen Maresh (2) and Kevin Tench. Man ofthe match was Paul Leyland.

A last-minute try robbed Portico of a deserved victory. Their tries were registered by Bradley Ashurst (2), Jamie Bradshaw (2), Davis Lee and Chris Webster. Goals were added by Chris Webster, Jamie Bradshaw and Jack JonesMan of the match was Adam Pye, top tackler was Jamie Bradshaw and Chris Webster earned the coaches award.
