CARL Fogarty today provided a strong indication that he is set to call time on his racing career.
The four-times World Superbike champion was hoping to be in a position to make a concrete decision on his future after the first real work-out for his injured arm at a testing session at Mugello, Spain.
But, although he still wants more time, his intentions are fairly clear.
Fogarty, who smashed his left arm in three places in a horrific 140mph fall in Australia in April, completed only five laps on his old Ducati bike and did not expect to even attempt to ride today.
He said: "I really struggled. It was really hard work.
"I did three laps which were a disaster and then had a rest for 10 minutes.
"After another two laps I was in agony. The pain was unbearable.
"I did not believe how far away I am from being fit.
"I am one per cent of the guy I was 12 months ago.
"But there will be no decision made yet.
"I might be in a better position this time next week."
