RUBEROID Sutton Cricket Club defeated St Marys College Old Boys by two wickets at New Street on Saturday. Batting first St Marys made slow progress against the Sutton attack but lost wickets regularly to be all out for 112 in 57 overs. Sutton then batted and were cruising to victory at 81-1 before deciding to make a game of it by losing another seven wickets before reaching their target.
The Second XI played at St Marys and invited the hosts to bat. Some excellent bowling early on by Eric Lanchin and Stuart Rimmer restricted St Marys to 130 all out. Despite a battling 44 from Alec Marsh Sutton just failed to overhaul the total finishing on 126 all out in an entertaining game. Sutton wish to thank their match sponsor Dial a Pizza for their continued support.
On Friday September 22 Ruberoid Sutton Cricket Club will be hosting a Sportsmans Evening. The guest speaker will be ex Liverpool star Joey Jones and there will be a comedian. Tickets are priced at £18 and are available from the club on 01744 812266.
