RAINHILL CC have been confirmed as Division Two champions of the Bromborough Paint's Merseyside Competitionthanks to an emphatic win at Old Xaverians.

Captain Mike Rotheram made his 41 runs count to bat their way to victory with help from Geoff Cropper who has continued his good form to score 26. Dominic Sparkes scored the vital runs with a superb 27 to take the final total to 130-8 off 46.2 overs. In reply Old Xaverians collapsed to 49 all out due to devastating bowling from Paul Robinson who took 6-21, including four wicket maidens. Mattie Dale supported him well to gain 3 wickets and Andy Lewis finished them off with one for none.

The seconnds had a long drawn out match at Victoria Terrace. Old Xaverians declared at 183-4 off only 37.2 overs. Mark Ford, Chris Swift, Ian Kelly and Conor Morris all took one wicket apiece. Rainhill made a steady start to finish on 135-7 with a long 33 from Ken Bold and a super innings from under 15 player Conor Morris.

The Sunday XI entertained the touring side Old Doms at Victoria Terrace and could only manage 110-8 with an excellent 54 from Andy Birkett saving their blushes. Steve Melia did well to score 16. Old Doms got the winning runs in fine style with an unbeaten 54 from S. Morris and Danny Sherratt took the only wicket for 26 to win by nine wickets.
