REGARDING Joe Beardsworth's remarks (Letters, Sept 2) about 'no favours for older children,' in which he asks about the lack of amenities for older children in Darwen.

Perhaps he or other like-minded folk should gather these kids together and start a fishing or football club. I feel sure they would get the required response.

Blackburn with Darwen Council is, in fact, keen to see such things happening throughout the borough.

Approach your local councilor, Mr Beardsworth, with your views towards helping these kids to help themselves. The council can only do so much and the funding for such activities as these and others is there to be applied for.

We, at the Bank Top Community Association in Blackburn, have done just that with great success and continue in our efforts to provide all the community, both young and old, with their needs.

Community spirit is the thing to turn things around in any area and I am sure Mr Beardsworth will find the right folk to help him to do so.

P NEWTON (chairman, Bank Top Community Association) Ashworth Close, Blackburn.
