FOUR local Rugby League players have earned call-ups that will give them the trip of a lifetime.

Blackbrook-based prop Jim Spark who starred in the Great Britain Students squad which won the first test in New Zealand by 36-26.

Bright spark Jim also had a leading role in the Student's 36-16 victory against the Army in the Courage Cup Final at Castleford. And the 6ft 2in15 stone giant also found time last season to pack in many outstanding games for Warrington Wolves under-21 Alliance team. Jim was generously sponsored for the tour by mine host Dave Burgess, of the Sefton Arms Hotel.

Meanwhile, Haydock ARLFC stars prop Ash Carroll, centre Gary Lowe and second-rower Matt Reynolds have been recognised at international level.

Ash and Matt are playing for a Great Britain students side in America, where they were due to play three games in 12 days. They were due to meet Philadelphia all stars, Glenn Mils Bulls, and finally The American Students.Matt would like to thank the Hermit pub for their sponsorship, And Ash the Haydock club for selling raffle tickets for him.

PC Gary Lowe has been selected to represent Great Britain police and will play in three Test matches in October against the South African Police in Durban, and Johannesburg. Gary would like to thank the Haydock club, especially Eric Smith who organised a sportsman's dinner to raise funds for this tour.
