Clitheroe 4 Atherton Colls 2

CLITHEROE's superb start to the new North West Counties Division One season continued last night -- but they were given a scare by the men from the Collieries.

Clitheroe had to come back from two down at half time but managed it thanks to four goals in the last 20 minutes in one of their most exhilarating displays for some time.

Dave Burgess' side were second best in the first half after goals from Paul Cox and Mark Jones, but an interval talking-to produced the right reaction and Clitheroe scored twice in a minute through Neil Spencer and Martin Aspinwall to bring themselves level.

Spencer then chipped the keeper to put Clitheroe ahead and two minutes from time Aspinwall added his second too.

Burgess said: "We scored some cracking goals on what many people said was one of the best games seen at Shawbridge for some time."
