Caldy 7 West Park 28

WEST Park continued their early season good form with an excellent win over a Caldy side much strengthened by a bevy of close-season signings including the remaining two Savermutto brothers who joined Alastair to provide the home side with an impressive midfield trio.

Park, however, were not overawed and were soon ahead with Steve Briers crashing over in the corner for Glen Fletcher to land the touchline conversion.

Fletcher also added two penalties before an outstanding try straight from the scrum by Chris Savermutto, converted by Brendan, McGaffney, opened the Caldy account. Fletcher's third penalty success gave Park a 16-7 lead at half-time.

In spite of strong counter attacks the Park defence held firm, a typical Sean Fletcher try from a line-out took the score past the 20-point mark. A second try by Steve Briers from a tap penalty move was converted by Glen Fletcher to complete the scoring to keep Park at the top of the league and keep the Park kicker top of the points scorers.

Instead of the scheduled league game with Penrith this Saturday West Park will make the long trip to North Yorkshire to take on Selby in the Tetley Bitter Cup, the game being brought forward from the original date of October 7.

Other Saturday scores: West Park 2nd 19 Caldy 22, Caldy 3rd 7 West Park 25.

Sunday Junior results: West Park under 13s at Caldy lost 10-30, West Park under 15s at home to Caldy won 27-15, West Park under 16s at home to Caldy lost 5-22.
