KINDHEARTED staff at Whiston Hospital have raised £2,000 for research into leukaemia in memory of a much-loved colleague who died from the disease last year.

Sheila Comer, from Whiston, a personal assistant and office manager to the Critical Care Directorate (CCD) was just 55 when she died last June, just two months after being diagnosed.

She had worked for St Helens and Knowsley Trust for more than 25 years in various posts, including Anaesthetic Secretary, and joined the CCD in 1997, the same year she graduated as an LLB (Honours).

heila also obtained a certificate in British sign language and in April, was appointed a magistrate in Liverpool. Sadly, because of her illness, she was never able to take up duties on the bench.

Colleague, Dorothy Daw told the Star: "I knew Sheila very well and she was a lovely person. Her death was very sudden and a great shock to everyone and all the staff here were eager to donate money towards research into leukaemia at Whiston Hospital's Ward C1 where Sheila was treated."
