PRIMARY school children in Newton-le-Willows will be given a special health 'novelty' pack this week as part of a scheme devised by the Single Regeneration Budget (SRB) funded Newton Community Health Forum.

The Newton Primary Schools project is supported by a number of partners including health forum volunteers, school nurses, dental health co-ordinators, school governors, head teachers, health promotion officers, Primary Care Groups and the Partnership with Parents in Newton.

The project covers all six Newton primary schools and includes Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 pupils. In total, some 900 pupils will benefit from the health pack this year, along with a further 300 Reception pupils next year.

The health pack includes a PE pump bag with the SRB Healthy RAM logo; a Dinosaurus toothbrush and toothpaste; a Barbie/Postman Pat/Bob the Builder flannel; a bar of soap; information on 'Healthy Schools Standards'; physical activity guidance; healthy eating guidance; dental guidance and a colouring competition and quiz.
