FYLDE Borough Council was tight-lipped yesterday (September 20) after it was revealed that three council workers had been suspended over alleged "irregularities".

Deputy chief executive Robin Bramhall has confirmed that three council workers are currently suspended, pending investigation, but refused to give any other details.

Yesterday (Septemebr 20) we received a tip-off that one of the workers is under investigation for allegedly trying to re-direct a payment due to the council.

Our informant alleged that a contractor told council bosses that the worker had asked for the payment details on a cheque to be altered from Fylde Borough Council to the worker's surname.

It is also believed that a full investigation has been launched into all the financial activities of the worker.

Mr Bramhall said: "I wouldn't want to talk about any details until the cases have been through due process.

"There is a procedure that we will go through if there are any allegations and we feel we need to investigate further.

"From time to time these accusations come up, sometimes maliciously, and we investigate them fully."

He also was keen to point out that the three suspensions were not connected but would give no further details.
