WITH reference to Mr Richard Buttrey's letter in The Citizen, (September 7) -- has power gone to the MEP's head? You bet your life it has.

No MP in this country represents his/her constituents. We don't even pick our MPs -- their party picks them.

Can you remember when any of us have been given any say about anything if it isn't on the party agenda?

They just don't want to know and often when it is, like the Euro, they still don't want to know our views.

I long ago came to the conclusion that we don't have a vote -- no one is listening to us. They don't ask us what we want -- they tell us and we have to like it or lump it, whoever you vote for.

The same goes for the town councillors with their secret meetings. They often blatantly ignore the people.

It seems that if we really want to stop this rot we should start with our town councils.

Firstly set up a fighting fund with like-minded people and, moving ward by ward, put up someone who is an independent who will live in and represent that ward and who will have no truck with party politics. In short someone who will care about his town and not his party.

Once that is done we could then start on our MPs and MEPs. But if one ever got that far they would probably abolish voting altogether.
