A PIONEERING scheme is again providing local coaches with a chance of being named Coach of the Year.

Wigan Sports Development Unit, in partnership with the Wigan Borough Sports Council, have launched the search for the areas top coach.

The scheme aims to recognise and reward those individuals who provide opportunities for others to play sport, improve their skills and realise their full potential.

The scheme is again sponsored by local leisurewear firm ADM who will be providing commemorative prizes.

To be eligible for the award the coach must be actively coaching, professionally or voluntarily, hold at least one recognised sports coaching qualification for the sport in which they are nominated and either live or work in Wigan.

Last year's winners was Lloyd Pugsley of Leigh Miners Rangers.

This year's award will be made in November and presented by Trevor Brooking.

The closing date for nominations is October. Nomination forms are available from the Sports Development Unit at the Robin Park Arena or by telephoning 01942-404981.
