RADCLIFFE BOROUGH face World Cup winners West Auckland in the next round of the FA Cup, writes STEVE BOTT.
The County Durham outfit made history early last century when they took on the mighty Juventus, representing England in what was regarded as the first World Cup.
The tiny North East outfit achieved the impossible by beating the Italian giants and bringing the World Cup home to England.
So, while it looks like Boro may have a mountain to climb against Wests, things might not be that bad. The Geordies are currently lying 17th in the 21-team Albany Northern League Division One table and may not be quite the power they were.
TV stars Dennis Waterman, of The Sweeney and Minder fame, along with Tim Healy of Auf Wiedershen Pet and Common as Muck, starred in a film about that famous West Auckland World Cup win. Whether the clash against the Boro gets onto our screens remains to be seen!
