BURY'S musicians are being given a chance to nurture their talent and perform at the town's Met arts centre.

Acoustic music and original songwriting are top of the agenda at the new series of Acoustix sessions, which run on Thursday nights.

These are essentially an "open mic" spot, where people can bring along their instruments and do a short set with the emphasis on their own material.

Ged Kelly, director of the Met, said: "We think these evenings promise to be both stimulating and original.

"New acoustic music is rapidly growing in popularity and there are a lot of highly talented musicians out there. From the nights we've had so far, we're sure the Acoustix sessions will rapidly develop into the region's main showcase gigs for singer/songwriters."

The sessions are hosted by musician, songwriter and columnist Alec Martin, whose Buskers Ball organisation has been helping to put new acoustic music on the map for seven years.
