PLAYERS from a new pub football team have come to the aid of two little girls in Ainsworth.
After hearing of the plight of three-year-old twins Jessica and Melissa Allan, who suffer from cerebral palsy, the Old White Horse players put their heads together to see what they could do to help the sisters, from Newquay Avenue.
And as a result midfielder Tony McGlynn (41) has resolved to run the Manchester Marathon and raise money for the girls through sponsorship.
"I've never run a marathon before but I'm reasonably fit and do a lot of running anyway," said Mr McGlynn of Belbeck Street, Bury. "The money will be used to buy specialised equipment for the twins."
The team also intend to help other children in the area, whether it be through training sessions or fund raising.
"Ainsworth is a close-knit village anyway and we are hoping to reinvigorate village spirit," said Mr McGlynn, who is pictured warming up watched by twins Jessica (left), and Melissa.
He will run the marathon on October 8. To sponsor him phone 01204 365426.
