A GROUP of golfers have chipped in to help build a new care centre for Alzheimer and dementia sufferers.
The 32-bed residential unit, to be located at Heathlands Village, in Prestwich, came a step nearer when more than 100 golfers hit the fairways.
They were taking part in the inaugural Heathlands Charity Golf Day at Whitefield Golf Club and were aiming to raise a five figure sum.
Joel Burns, chairman of the Heathlands Charity Golf Day Committee, said: "Our Project 2000 initiative will provide a facility for the less fortunate members of our community.
"We want to help Heathlands fulfil the emotional, social, religious and physical needs of Alzheimers disease and dementia sufferers.
"This was one of those events where everyone was a winner as everyone who took part, players and sponsors, have the satisfaction of aiding an extremely worthy cause," added Joel, who hopes the event will become an annual fixture.
Eventhall Family Charitable Trust has sponsored the golf day, although there are sponsorship and advertising opportunities still available. Anyone interested should contact Heathlands on 772 4800.
