AN elderly disabled man found hanging in his garage had left instructions and telephone numbers in respect of the administration of his affairs, an inquest was told.

Bury District Coroner Mr Barrie Williams said 70-year-old widower and retired driver Ronald Yuille had given instructions that he was finding life difficult and that he had made a considered judgement to take his own life.

In recording a verdict of suicide on Mr Yuille, of Harper Fold Road, Radcliffe, the coroner stated: "He had left details so matters could be appropriately dealt with. There were telephone numbers of people who would know about his affairs and could deal with them administratively and efficiently. There was no doubt about his intentions and that he knew exactly what he was doing and what would be the consequences." Mr Yuille had no relatives but appeared to get over the death of his late wife Dorothy. He had a heart problem and suspected Parkinson's disease and used a stick or Zimmer frame to get about with. Those who knew him said he was a private man but also friendly and appeared contented.

A home carer who visited his house on September 12 found the door open and saw a magazine with a yellow note attached. There was a note directing the reader to the garage and also a further note. The carer contacted head office and waited with a post lady until Mrs Diane Bell, the domiciliary care manager arrived.

She opened the garage door and found Mr Yuille hanging by string from a roof beam, with one foot on step ladders. He was dead.

Police inquiries concluded that there was no evidence of foul play or third party involvement.
