CHILDREN are learning while they have fun in an adventure-style outdoor playground at Chapels Nursery School in Darwen (see picture).

A bland area of open space in Winterton Road has been transformed with new footpaths, trees, a mini roadway, stepping stones, bench seating, logs for balancing and a display of tyres.

It is year three of a five-year plan to develop the grounds as an educational facility.

The school has entered the Lancashire Evening Telegraph's Grimewatch competition. Grimewatch is open to any individual or organisation who have done something to improve the East Lancashire environment.

If you have a project that you think is worth celebrating then we want to hear about it. Or if you know someone who is doing good work for the environment and would like to nominate them for Grimebuster or Junior Grimebuster of the Year then let us know.

For more information contact Lynn Schofield by telephone on 01254 678678 ext 244, fax on 01254 680429 or e-mail on grimewatch@lancashire.newsquest.co.uk or by post at Grimewatch, Lancashire Evening Telegraph, Newspaper House, High Street, Blackburn, BB1 1HT.
