A TREE planting project at a Burnley school is taking root for nature-loving students.

The Ivy Bank Environmental Educational Zone has already seen the planting of 350 trees and shrubs with the creation of woodland areas and seating for use by the school and local community.

The project was launched in November 1998 with the aims of educating pupils about trees and the role they play in safe-guarding the environment.

Now the young environmentalists are ready to move onto the next phase of the development of their arboretum.

Mr Michael Watson from Ivy Bank High School said: "This project has gone from strength to strength.

"It has enhanced their studies and helped them to appreciate and understand the importance of trees in the global sense.

"It has given the students a sense of pride and achievement in endeavouring to create a more attractive environment for fellow students and the community."

If you have a project that you think is worth celebrating then we want to hear about it.

Or if you know someone who is doing good work for the environment and would like to nominate them for Grimebuster or Junior Grimebuster of the Year then let us know.
