IN my opinion the Government is quite right not to give in to the demands of the road hauliers and farmers. From what I can see, this whole debacle has been stirred up by certain sections of the Establishment, aided and abetted by reactionary elements in the community.

This was not so-called grass roots direct action but was carried out with the specific aim of damaging the Labour Government. It's quite right to tax patrol: it's a pollutant. And it is also quite right that the revenue from that tax should go to schools and hospitals.

Now let's see this Government use its power and resources to implement a fully-integrated public transport system so that we are not so reliant on our cars.
