TYLDESLEY girl Claire Shepherd decided to organise a fund raising adventure to says thanks to the hospital that is treating her mum.
Mrs Erica Shepherd, 54, of Treen Road, was diagnosed with breast cancer in July last year and is still receiving chemotherapy treatment at the Christie Institute.
Claire and a group of six friends got together to discuss a money raising venture - but because of her fear of heights a parachute or bunji jump was ruled out.
Instead the magnificent seven - Claire, Joel Hopkins, Phill Catte, Ste Wild, Barry Lowe, Geoffrey Farrell and Liz Penfold - raised £828 for the Christie's Against Cancer Appeal from a sponsored white water rafting run in Snowdonia.
The pals, who paid £200 for the course, are all former Fred Longworth and Bedford High pupils, and finished the course without mishap.
Now they are planning another event - but what it will be is yet to be decided.
Claire said: "We'd like to thank all our workmates and friends for helping us to raise so much. All the money is now in and the cheque has been sent off this week."
