Nuneaton Borough 2 Leigh RMI 1 RMI suffered another Nationwide Conference setback, this time falling victim to two second half goals from Borough's £35,000 record signing Marc McGregor.

The match did little to impress a modest gate of 1145 and never reached any great heights.

But Leigh will be more concerened about halting a dismal run and that they only created three chances in the entire 90 minutes.

Indeed, Steve Waywell's side has now picked up just two points from the last 15 and have not won since August 28. Saturday's defeat sees them drop two more places on the league ladder to 12th.

And to add to Leigh's tale of woe, they had central defender Jamie Udall sent off in the last minute for a second bookable offence.

McGregor, easily Borough's top scorer, was the real difference between the sides and his two goals took his tally to an impressive seven in nine games. Leigh played second fiddle for much of the first half and the home side could have grabbed a two-goal lead inside the first six minutes. McGregor's threaded pass found Lee Charles unmarked in the box but his low cross was cleared from the foot of the post by Gary Scott. Alex Sykes then fired over the top when the Leigh defence failed to clear a corner and the same player had a header superbly tipped over the bar by Craig Dootson before Charles miscued a low drive with the goal at his mercy.

Scott had to be at his best to clear the Leigh lines again in the 31st minute when Mark Taylor fired in a dangerous cross and not long afterwards McGregor whistled another effort just over the top.

McGregor finally gave Borough the lead they deserved eight minutes into the second half when he raced on to a long through ball and calmly slipped his shot past the advancing Dootson. It was a goal Borough throughly deserved, if only for their territorial supremacy, and McGregor wrapped the game up in the 79th minute when a Leigh move broke down in midfield and sub Krystof Kotyolo's cross was headed in by an unmarked McGregor from 12 yards.

Leigh had been restricted to just a couple of chances, Steve Jones flashing one shot across the face of goal and then glancing Peter Cumiskey's free kick inches wide.

Leigh did mange a consolation effort seven minutes from time, leading scorer Tony Black cutting inside a hesitant home defence to rifle home a low shot. Defender Udall got his red card in the final minute - his second bookable offence - and Leigh's miserable afternoon was just about complete.
