A £3.2m police campaign to stamp out street robbery has been launched in Greater Manchester.

More police officers and an additional 200,000 hours of policing are being allocated across the region in Operation Hawk.

A robust mixture of high-profile policing, hotspot targeting, stop and search powers, CCTV and crime-prevention techniques will be used to address street robbery problems.

Assistant chief constable Alan Green said: "Crime and the fear of crime affect people's quality of life.

"We all have a right to walk the streets safely and live our lives without becoming victims of crime.

"Greater Manchester Police is committed to reducing robbery and will increase its priority in combating street robbery to ensure the target is delivered to the people of Greater Manchester."

Victims aged 10-15 are the priority target for street robbers. Second highest on the list are people aged 31-59.
