NOW that the obstacle course for cyclists between the Magistrates Court and Bury Bridge is complete, will the council tell us: (1) How much it cost and (2) When do we get to see the cyclists?

I motor around the streets of North Manchester eight hours a day, five days a week, and probably see no more than one cyclist a day. Taking Saturday and Sunday into consideration I probably see more people on horseback than on cycles in the Bury area!

Recently I motored three thousand miles in Europe, through three major cities and a considerable number of small towns and in none of them did I see anything like the provision for cyclists that we have here in Bury.

In the not-too-distant future, when the lanes, lines and coloured asphalt need to be replaced, someone is going to ask who thought of it, who authorised it and they will remind themselves that cyclists do not contribute anything at all to our road system in direct tax.

I can only assume that with the ever increasing price of petrol some far-seeing individual is making provision for the future. There can be no other excuse.
