BUS access to an Astley school is to be made safer for pupils.
Students at St Mary's RC High School will benefit from plans to widen the school gates.
The Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority's Policy Committee's agreement to fund the alterations has been welcomed by Wigan Council.
The changes mean that the turning area, originally designed to accommodate buses travelling in one direction only, can now be used by buses travelling in either direction.
Cllr John HIlton, Wigan spokesman for the Authority said: "I am delighted that the Authority has been able to secure the resources to allow this scheme to go ahead.
"It will improve bus access to the school, particularly for buses coming in from the direction of Astley, and make the existing facility much safer."
