ALL my working life I have been handicapped because of a poor education.

At work I was always overlooked when it came to promotion. Then in the early 70s I enrolled for what was then called Adult Literacy Evening Classes, I enjoyed it but shift work soon put an end to that.

Now at the age of 65 with time on my hands, I have started a course at St Helens College in the English and Maths Workshop, just a few hours a week doing maths and English to improve my basic skills. I wish I could have done this many years ago.

I enjoy every minute of it and I have met some interesting people of all ages. The staff are very helpful and nothing is too much trouble for the tutors. They make lessons interesting and always make you feel relaxed and comfortable. I am very pleased with my achievements especially in maths, and I have just signed up for a GCSE course in maths. The fact that I am writing this letter is a vast improvement in my writing and punctuation skills.

With what I have learned at college, and with my own PC I have discovered a whole new interesting world and I would recommend it to anyone whatever their age.

Very mature student, Les Fishwick, Gillars Green Drive, Eccleston.
