AN appeal by Chipping Local History Society for information about servicemen who died in two world wars has brought new information.

It has emerged that James Irving was a private in the Royal Warwickshire Regiment during the First World War but the Society would still like information about his family, who lived in Chipping and other parts of the Ribble Valley, and his working life.

Major -- his Christian name not his rank -- Rhodes was born at Startifants Farm in 1895 and was reported missing in France while serving with the Border Regiment in 1916.

The Society would also like more information on men who died in the Second World War -- Fred Ellison, a leading aircraftsman in the RAF; Ernest Kenyon, an RAF flight sergeant; Harry Crane, a sergeant craftsman with the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers and John James Dobson who also served with REME.

Anyone with information can contact Irene Preston on 01995 61556 or Ted Ashley on 01995 61523.
