A WOMAN was indecently assaulted as she waited at a bus stop in St Helens town centre in broad daylight.

The woman, aged in her early 40s, was alone, waiting by one of the stops at the bus station on Corporation Street between 12.30pm and 1pm on Wednesday, October 11 when she was approached by a man who asked her for a cigarette.

She gave him one but later told police he made her feel uncomfortable.

Suddenly, he lunged at her and attempted to kiss her. She tried to push him away but couldn't and he indecently assaulted her before making his escape, leaving her extremely upset and shaken.

The man was white, aged in his late 20s or early 30s, about 5ft 7ins tall and slim with dark, straggly hair. He was wearing a black leather jacket.

Police believe there may have been other people at the bus station who may have witnessed the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Bev Burgess at St Helens CID on 0151 777 6064 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
