TOWNSFOLK and their organisations are being invited to take part in this year's Royal British Legion Ceremony of Remembrance.

The ceremony will take place at the war memorial in Victoria Square on Sunday, November 12 and will be attended by Mayor of St Helens, Councillor Pat Robinson and fellow councillors. Following a short service, wreaths will be laid on the memorial by the mayor and council leader, Marie Rimmer, on behalf of the people of St Helens. Representatives of various organisations will then lay their wreaths.

Those taking part will meet at Birchley Street car park between 10.15 and 10.25am before marching through to Victoria Square for the start of the service.

The council is also backing the nationwide campaign by the Royal British Legion for a two-minute silence to be observed on Armistice Day itself.

This will also take place by the war memorial at 11am on Saturday, November 11 and the mayor, councillors and council chief officers will attend, alongside members of the public.
