REGULARS at the Sutton Oak pub can enjoy a byte and a pint thanks to the introduction of a computer learning resource centre in the pub lounge.

Saint's rugby legend Alex Murphy launched the innovative project at the pub in Bold Road, Sutton, in front of dozens of locals and representatives of St Helens Chamber and business representatives.

The project, the brainchild of pub landlord Tony Biggs and St Helens Chamber, is to give local people who may not be familiar or at ease with computers the opportunity to get 'hands on experience' in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere.

Customers will be able to take advantage of the free facility to get access to the internet, send and receive e-mails, and to learn keyboard skills and have access to a variety of software.

Ann Mabbott, St Helens Chamber Education Advisor, said: "Apart from giving everyone a bit of fun while learning -- solving the ever present pub banter of who did what, where and when -- on the more serious side it could help in a range of things from job searching to desk top publishing."
