YOUNG vandals have returned to a local green haven, sparking a call for the site to be destroyed.

Fed-up Sean Plant, 38, who lives in St Mary's Wharf, Blackburn, said the 'Stone Circle' site opposite his home has become a meeting place for youths causing havoc.

Mr Plant said it was only two weeks ago that police took the names and address of around 40 children see at the spot, behind the Asda superstore in Grimshaw Park.

He said: "Most of the kids are aged about 14, but there are some as young as six or seven. They drink and take drugs there."

Mr Plant claimed the children were out until about 11pm at weekends and said that residents were too scared to walk their dogs for fear of intimidation.

Calling for more police help, Mr Plant said he and others had called in officers on numerous occasions but they always arrived too late. He said: "What we are asking for is the police to patrol the area on Fridays, when the trouble is at its worst.

"The place is serving no purpose but a negative one and we are tired of ringing the police. The idea behind it is good, but nobody sits there to enjoy the scenery. It's just littered in broken glass and metal."

Asda workers have also been targeted by the youths. A lorry driver narrowly missed being hit by a bottle which had been thrown into the goods yard.

Security manager Chris Jones, said: "It is a recurring problem here, especially on Friday nights.

"When a security officer confronted the kids last Friday he was told to go away. They later threw bottles into the back yard -- one just missing the lorry driver. By the time the police had arrived they had gone."

Sergeant Andrew Winstanley said: "All incidents are prioritised as they are reported to us. This problem is particularly prominent at weekends and all area officers have been made aware. Plans have already been made to address the situation. We want to make the residents feel safe, involved and secure."

He added that there would be high profile policing in the area this weekend.
