MP DAVE Watts has called for working parents in the town to make sure they claim their share of extra funds being made availablein the North West region through the Children's Tax Credit.
It will be worth up to £442 a year when it comes into force in April, 2001.
The St Helens North representative said: "I want every parent in St Helens to claim this help which could be worth an extra £8.50 a week to families with children, whether couples or lone parents."
