MOST people are deeply troubled about the current state of events in Israel and Palestine.

It does not, however, help the situation when members of the community in Blackburn plan to march and openly protest about our own Government's policies in the Middle East, thus inciting further hatred and anti-British propaganda.

As a nation, we dislike war and strife between countries -- full stop -- and do not wish to see a recurrence of anti-Jewish feelings that were present during Hitler's years.

All this march will do is stir up trouble in Blackburn. If organiser Mr Tas Addiq is so sure of his rights and his own convictions, and those of the 3,000 who will attend, then let them go ahead and do what they must in Palestine, but do not incite trouble in our town.

I call upon Jack Straw, the police, churches, your newspaper and community organisations to help bring these feelings under control for the good of our own country.
