ANY talk about the regeneration of Radcliffe is a joke!
After spending millions moving a traffic jam 50 yards by building a new by-pass, renovating two "showpiece streets" at the rear of St Mary's Church, and paying a fortune for the Rusty Nails "sculpture" at the bottom of Ainsworth Road, what have the planners achieved?
Since control of our town was handed over to Bury, Radcliffe has declined to such an extent that regeneration is not an option: the only alternative is to knock it down and start again!
Mind you, their latest idea is one of their best. Putting some grass on the Piazza, to enable people to have a lie down while staggering from the Bridge Inn to William Hills, sounds a really good idea.
Seriously, councillors should be concerning themselves with getting industry and some decent shops back into Radcliffe and getting hostels for the homeless and drug dealers out! Their idea of "regeneration" is to create a ghost town full of car parks.
