RADCLIFFE BOROUGH must wait for a pitch inspection at lunchtime today to see if the biggest game in their history gets the go-ahead.

Kevin Glendon's men must take on Burscough again if they are to secure a home tie against Nationwide League Third Division side York City on November 18.

Boro held Burscough to a 1-1 draw at their Victoria Park ground on Saturday and should have had the tie wrapped up there and then.

But the two must meet again and the replay is scheduled for tonight at Stainton Park (kick-off 7.45pm). The torrential rain over the last few days has put the match in doubt and there will be a pitch inspection at lunchtime to determine whether the game goes ahead.

Spectators wishing to check on the outcome can ring the club on 0161-724 8346.

As it stands, FA rules state that the replay must be played by Thursday of this week and if tonight's game is called off Boro are set to reschedule it to 7.45pm on Thursday.

Boro couldn't have a bigger incentive to complete the job against Burscough.

If they get through to the first round proper they are set to become the lowliest club left in the competition, certainly from the North, as there is no other non-league club below UniBond Division One level left in the competition up here.

Another big draw, should they meet York, is that former Boro star Kevin Hulme is now in their ranks.

Hulme, who also played for Bury, came on as an 88th minute substitute in Saturday's 0-0 draw with Hull City -- a game that drew a gate of 5.493 to Bootham Crescent.

Speaking to the Bury Times yesterday Hulme, who lives within walking distance of Stainton Park said: "I hope to get to the replay, it would be superb to come back and play at Radcliffe if I'm selected.

"I'm only one match away from a suspension which would cover the first round weekend so I'll have to watch my step."

Hull do have a large travelling support, but, even so, that attendance figure puts a question mark over Radcliffe's ability to stage the tie, particularly with Bury due to play at home on the same day against Northwich Victoria, 5-1 conquerors of Sheffield FC in their tie on Saturday.

Boro boss Kevin Glendon reports no injury worries for the replay against Burscough and he says: "While I feel we should have come away with it in the bag on Saturday, the replay will be a hard game and it's certainly not over yet.

"I can't help thinking it should have been done and dusted though and Burscough will be thinking they've got another bite of the cherry. I know I certainly would if I was on their side.

"We've got the lads who can play like that again though and Burscough haven't got anything to come in that wasn't there on Saturday.

"Everybody's fit and although goalkeeper Danny Hurst started his trial week at Manchester City yesterday, he will be available.

"It's a great chance for him and we are really pleased, but if he does impress I don't think anything will happen just yet," added Glendon.

That's maybe as well because Boro's other keeper, Steve Berryman, a recent transfer target for Salford City, is still a few weeks away from a return after his shoulder injuries.
