EAST Lancashire's very own 'Mr Hallowe'en' knows plenty about things that go bump in the night. But now, ghost expert Simon Entwistle has issued a spooky appeal for the help of East Lancashire folk today.

Clitheroe man Simon is an expert on ghosts, ghouls and spooky goings-on and has a blood-curdling story for every occasion.

Now, however, he wants to hear Lancashire Evening Telegraph readers' very own ghostly tales to develop a spooky map of Victorian Blackburn.

By day Simon works in the grounds maintenance department of Ribble Valley Borough Council.

But at night he transforms himself into the ghostly guide for walks around some of East Lancashire's most haunted spots.

He has been running his ghost walks in Whalley and Clitheroe for three years, and takes brave ghosthunters on spectral strolls around pubs, graveyards and other spooky spots while telling his most chilling ghost stories.

He now wants to develop a ghost walk around what was arguably the most spooky era of all -- Victorian times. Can you imagine Blackburn town centre when it was lit by lanterns and horse-drawn carriages clattered along deserted streets?

Simon can and he is using it for ghostly inspiration.

He said: "I want people to get in touch with their own spooky stories. I'm sure there must be ghostly tales from 'Old Blackburn' involving buildings like the police station and some of the town centre's oldest pubs."

Simon has developed his walks using his own research and the stories of people he has met along the way. And he has had inquiries from people all over the world about the ghostly goings on in East Lancashire.

But despite his own ghosthunting, he maintains the most haunted place in Lancashire is Chingle Hall, near Longridge.

He said: "Chingle Hall has definitely had more ghost sightings and spooky happenings than anywhere else in Lancashire.

"I once did a feature there with a television crew and when we had finished and went to go home, everybody's car batteries had mysteriously flattened."

Simon was due to do a ghost walk last night, in conjunction with Blackburn with Darwen Council, to celebrate Hallowe'en in Sunnyhurst Woods, but it was cancelled because of weather conditions.

He has two walks planned in Clitheroe for 6pm and 8pm tonight.
