Haydock Warriors u/16s 24 Leyland Warriors 18

ALAN Pilling was the hero of the day for Haydock.

With the scores level after a tough encounter, he bulldozed his way over the line in the dying seconds to snatch victory for Haydock, Kerkhof adding the extras.

Haydock made hard work of this victory. They coasted into a 16-4 half-time lead with tries from Wayne Dollin and Danny Gee, with John Travis scoring the try of the match. After a good up-and-under from Kerkhof was fumbled by the full back allowing Danny Gee to hack the ball forward before picking it up and delivering a superbly-timed pass out of the back door for the supporting Travis.

The second half was littered with handling errors by both sides. Leyland managing to keep more focused and slowly pull back the deficit.

Kerkhof kicked a penalty to add to his three conversions, but Leyland's never-say-die attitude brought them back to level pegging before Pilling had the final say.

Kevin Taylor won the Rekon man of the match award, Chris Pilling picking up the Craddock and Lamb top tackler trophy. Other notable displays came from Wayne Dollin, Ben Melia, Barry Kerkhof and Jamie Pilling.

Haydock played well in a game the scoreline fails to reflect.

After conceding two early tries, Haydock hit back with a John Kavaney try converted by Stephen Arrowsmith and were unlucky not to go in in the lead at the break after a Craig Tipene 'try' was disallowed.

The Haydock C&B man of the match was awarded to Daniel Rimmer with Matthew Allen and Craig Tipene topping the tackle count. Greg Holland, Stephen Arrowsmith, John Kavaney and Michael Moran all played well.
