A FUND-raising concert, held in memory of a man who died after being stabbed on holiday, has proved a big success.
Twenty-year-old Gareth Mather from Newton-le-Willows was attacked just hours after arriving in Barcelona in July.
And 22-year-old Collette Jackson, from Vicarage Drive, Haydock decided to pay tribute to her life-long friend with the one-off concert in his memory.
Held at Haydock C & B Club, the event raised a total of £1,142 which Collette has given to Gareth's parents, dad Ray and step-mum, Denise, to cover any transport or accommodation costs they may need to follow police enquiries in Barcelona.
Collette told the Star: "I would like to thank Haydock C & B Club for their support, St Helens College who gave a lot of raffle prizes and anyone else who contributed, either to the raffle or collection. Gareth's parents attended and it was quite an emotional night for them but they were very pleased with the great response."
