HEALTH services in St Helens and Knowsley have praised a local firm for helping to keep doctors on the road during the recent fuel crisis.

Family firm Caldo Garages reserved their fuel supplies for family doctors to ensure they could continue to get to their surgeries and visit patients in their homes.

As a special vote of thanks local health officials have thanked Caldo for their support and the Community Health Council (CHC) has presented the firm with a special Patient Commendation Award -- the first time it has been given to a non NHS employee.

Chair of the St Helens and Knowsley Health Authority, Nora Giubertoni, said: "Thanks to the efforts of Tim Scott and all the staff at Caldo, family doctors in St Helens and Knowsley were able to continue to provide an effective 24-hour service to all their residents.

"We are very grateful for their help during this difficult time and we would like to thank everyone that co-operated with the NHS to ensure services were maintained."
