BLACKPOOL'S West Coast Wasps are proving just as good with a puck as they are with the ball.

After winning the Canadian imports Puck Tournament at the Telewest arena, the West Coast SHC has entered three teams into the Greater Manchester inline Hockey League (GMIHL) for the 2000/2001 season.

Playing out of Darwen leisure centre near Bolton, which was the nearest venue they could acquire to Manchester, the Blackpool based club is off to a flying start.

The Wasp minnows U11s having played two fixtures are top of the table first beating Ashton Warriors 22-0 followed by Blackley Piranhas 17-4. Peewee A team U14s Wasps have also made their mark with a 25-3 Stinging of Walkden Jaguars.

West Coast Peewee B team the Demons are yet to play after Stockport Sabres pulled out of the league at short notice.

The Wasps Peewee (BiSHA U12s) after winning the North West Ball League have gained a place at the BiSHA national finals to be played in November.

There is a lot of debate between puck and ball organisations on which is the best.

The Wasps may say, "Why argue? Just play both!"
