Mike Scott from Border Harriers was a clear winner in the first ever Lancaster Bridges 10k on Sunday 29th October. In extremely difficult windy conditions, he finished more than a minute clear of his club colleague Steve

Murdoch, in a time of 33.05. Third was Bingley Harrier Jason Parker.

Finishing times were hampered by the poor conditions, but this didn't dampen the level of interest in this inaugural event. Potential competitors had to be turned away because the entry limit had been reached on the day, and more than 275 people completed the course. Entrants travelled from as far away as Perth in Scotland and even Guernsey in the Channel Islands. They included 62 year old running legend Ron Hill, and the local MP, Hilton Dawson, who completed the course in a commendable 51 minutes and presented prizes afterwards.

The flat but very scenic route took runners from Salt Ayre Sports Centre, along the network of recently upgraded cycleways and footpaths along the banks of the River Lune, and across the river via Skerton Bridge and the Lune Aqueduct.

The first local runner was Bill Gardner of Lancaster & Morecambe AC, who finished 6th in a time of 35.50. He was followed by clubmates Andrew Paton (37.23) and Dave Nixon (37.57). Louise Gardner was first female for the host club in 43.37.

Border Harriers took the male team prize, and Lancaster University won the ladies event with Alexa Hyldon, Malaiko Homo, and Ruth MacGavigan.

The event received generous sponsorship from BusinessServe plc, Pete Bland Sports, Henry Boot Construction, Tim Butler Contractors, Salt Ayre Sports Centre, and Lancaster City Council Tourism Service. Lancaster & Morecambe AC would like to thank all the sponsors and also all the club members and their families who helped organise the event on the day and make it so successful.
