NOT a blade of grass has been cut on the soccer pitches on Manchester Road playing fields in Bury. For the first two weeks of the football season, back in September, the weather was fine, and they should have been cut then. However, I do accept that in recent weeks we have had severe weather.
The council will shortly be sending clubs invoices for a Phase One rental payment of £275 with a total season charge amounting to £550. Like many other amateur clubs in the local Sunday league, the Waterloo is not sponsored or subsidised, and we all want value for money.
If the grass had been cut earlier this problem might have been avoided, but having to fork out much-needed money for nothing is just not on. We want an explanation from those responsible.
KENNETH MACFARLANE,
treasurer, Waterloo FC.
