REGARDING the point made by Graham Aspen (Letters, January 10) in connection with earlier remarks by a Mr A Walmsley about foul language on television nowadays, above the entrance to Broadcasting House is an inscription which, translated, reads:

" . . .that everything offensive to decency and hostile to peace will be expelled, and that the nation will incline its ear to those things which are lovely, pure and of good report..."

If these ideals were still followed, there would be no need for Mr Walmsley to reach for his switch-off button.
