THE St Helens Schoolboys under15s soccer team continued their impressive season with a 6-1 win over Rossendale.

After a scrappy opening, St Helens took control with goals from Chris Dearden (Sutton) and Danny Melling (Haydock). Rossendale battled gamely until late in the first half when a goal from Phil Dixon (St Augustine's) put the game beyond them.

Dixon scored twice in the second half to complete his hat-trick and an unfortunate own goal put St Helens six up before the vusitors grabbed a deserved late consolation.

St Helens entertain Blackburn at Ruskin Drive on Saturday, January 20 (kick-off 10.30am) in the first round of the North-West cup.

The under 14s also played Rossendale, winning 2-0 with goals from Webb (Rainford) and McDowell (De La Salle). They now travel to Kirkby in the Merseyside League.

The Primary A Team travelled to play a strong Stoke side who had lost only once this year and just went down 3-2. Stephen King (District) and captain Thomas Connick (Windleshaw) scored the St Helens goals with Martin Cox (Carr Mill) also playing well.

This week the Primary team are at home to Huyton at Newton High School, kick-off 10.30am.

Meanwhile, The Primary B team represented St Helens in the Inter Association

7-a-side at Walton Hall Park in Liverpool. They held group winners Maghull to a very creditable draw 0-0 then lost narrowly to Liverpool 1-0 and Kirkby 2-1. Scorer for S. Helens was Daniel Lynch (St Thomas of Canterbury).

This week the B team travel to Rotherham for a friendly.

St Aidan's, Billinge represented St Helens in the regional finals of the Capri-Sun Soccer Sixes held at Wargrave, Primary, Newton-le-Willows and claimed runners-up spot behind Maghull.
