AS a none British European I have some trouble understanding the debate about the Euro currency.

I understand people are afraid of something unknown.

But what I really have trouble understanding is a lot of the sceptics of the single currency fail to see, or fail to mention, the obvious benefits the UK would receive if they were involved with the single currency.

UK would be a bridge for American companies into Europe with investments to go along.

The culture in UK, whether business or social life, is a part of the Anglo-Amercan model and UK is closer to home for most Americans than the rest of Europe.

There are also strong indications that the strong pound that has been crippling the British Industry with a devastating blow to the car industry will be reduced if the UK joins the single currency.

The UK has always had a "special relationship" with the USA and it's obvious it would be in both of their interests for the UK to join the single currency.

What I think is interesting is that this "special interest" always seem to be in the American favour. Sometimes I do not understand why the UK does not give up cricket and take up baseball and become the newest USA state.

What I do not understand is why everything that has to do with USA is so good and everything that has to do with Europe is so bad.

Tony Blair said in the speech to the Polish stock exchange that UK could and should be the bridge between Europe and America, but with the quality of the debate in this country I feel that UK is more likely to be the battleground of America and Europe.
