CRICKET: Ramsbottom batsman Tommy Read has been offered a trial by Surrey -- thanks to his exploits Down Under!
Read, 21, said: "I was playing first grade cricket in Canberra last winter. An umpire there recommended me to his brother-in-law who happens to be the physio at Surrey, so I am going down to Surrey on February 21."
And Read -- who scored 466 runs last season at an average of 20.26 for second-placed Ramsbottom -- added: "It's a great chance for me and obviously I am delighted to be given it."
