IN November we held our annual general meeting to which all were invited. Unfortunately, only eight members did attend.

To make matters much worse, I was devastated to hear that due to personal and private commitments Dorothy Gunther and Derek Edwards were resigning as chairman and treasurer respectively. To compound this, we received notification that our president, Mr Melvin Magnall, was tendering his resignation.

That left six remaining committee members to elect a committee of five officers. Two members announced that they could not help which meant that we could not carry on with the meeting. It was decided that we would reconvene in the New Year and, in the meantime, inform all who have been involved with Ramsbottom and District Sports Advisory Council (RADSAC) of the problem facing us.

We all have to face the question: should Sports Week continue in its present format?

The current committee members are very worried and would hate to see Sports Week disappear through lack of support. We know how hard everyone works and realise that new blood and new ideas are needed if we are to continue.

So everyone is invited to attend a public meeting at Ramsbottom Cricket Club on Monday, Jan 22, at 8pm to launch a campaign to recruit new members and to stop Sports Week disappearing. Show your support for an event which has enjoyed great popularity and and success over the past 25 years. Please don't let us lose it now.
